Here we go again. I long debated about the decision to continue writing the travel log. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to bother since it takes considerable time to create (even though its simple). I also wasn’t sure if my family and friends really cared that much about reading the blog. From the beginning I have always worried it would come across as bragging, or invoke jealousy in those less fortunate than us. (Of course some may pity us when they read about the maintenance and costs we incur). As I write this a little over a week into our travels, family have already started asking about the next edition of RedDogAdventures so I guess there is, at least, some continued interest in our travels. Donna and I do like keeping some kind of diary or log so that we can remember months later where a favorite spot or restaurant was. So here goes the next adventure of Maverick the big red dog and his keepers!
Time to roll!!! This afternoon I was dismissed from my pending jury duty. Jury duty was the big unknown driving our departure date. We initially planned on leaving a week or so earlier but cancelled a reservation so I could get it out of the way. Immediately on receiving the Collin County email, Donna, Maverick, and I decided we would depart early tomorrow. We bought our last minute groceries and packed the coach. It doesn’t take us long.
We had been making preparations like new tires for the coach (ugh!). Tires are a big expense and on an RV are only considered safe for about 7 years due to aging while the rig sits still. RV’s hardly ever wear the tread out. In our case, the Michelin’s started off a couple of years ago with some small cracks in the sidewalls but the cracks had grown over the last couple of years to be worrisome. It was time. Not cheap but with all of the travels we still have planned it should be good insurance.
Another recent tasks included completing repair of the fiberglass damage from last year. I’m not pleased with the paint match but from 100ft it isnt’ too bad. I will probably touch up some time in the future.
Donna and I also washed the coach thoroughly. Not an easy task. We used our pressure washer and that helped a lot. Working non stop it took us about 1/2 day to wash and for me to polish the wheels again.
We probably should have taken pictures because a wash job never lasts long.
